ABOUT US
Superbohemians (GbR) was established in 2015 by the artist duo Greta Amend and Christian Alexander Rogler, following their 7-year-long artistic collaboration within their former group "Embassy of Performing Arts" (see photo below), which had been staging various performing art projects from 2008 to 2014. The Superbohemians´ aim is to foster continuous professional exchange between artists from Germany and abroad.
Superbohemians projects have come as solo projects as well as in cooperations with a great bunch of invited artists. We work as researchers, concept developers and artistic players at the interface of film, theatre and visual arts, with a strong emphasis of the actor and the language as the epicenter of our cross-art productions.
Our work encompasses the development, production and direction of cross-genre happenings, group perfomances, scenic readings, performative lecture demonstations, philosophical roundtables, novel adaptions and stagings of plays, as well as the production of film projects and installations.
We are interested in researching the relation of humans and social conditions, whilst creating a spirit of collective enquiry. We initiate exchange by emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to making visual and perfomance art. We have established a pan-european artist network, and offer a context for putting creative ideas and social arguments into action.
A basis for the development of a common language and artistic direction are our concepts for knowledge transfer, which have gained success in highly acclaimed workshops and masterclasses for theatre- and film actors and directors, lead by Greta Amend. These have been invited to art universities and cultural institutions throughout Europe, like the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB), the Norsk Skuespillersenter, and the postgraduate departments of the National Danish Film School as well as the Danish National School of Performing Arts (DDSKS) since 2012.
We Superbohemians have in turn invited and collaborated with fellow artists from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Greece, UK and the Netherlands in temporary ensembles : Actors and directors, as well as with artists from other disciplines, like writers, painters, installation artists, musicians, designers, photographers and different creative people, whom we happen to meet in our daily life and work.
A gathering of people with a shared passion for art and society, and the common thought of the importance of a renaissance for the actor as the epicenter of the theatre, eager to face the challenges of a more and more digitized context, in order to shape a future approach of the artist.
For us being a Superbohemian means also a certain ethical lifestyle of being: From the beginning of our sojourn we find ourselves in a constant process of creation, reinvention and regeneration; we search, find, select, reject, fail, risk, search anew, and start all over again. That is the nature of our work. This includes not only the belief in own talent, but also trust in the path pursued, honesty towards oneself and others, and a healthy appetite for risk.
